ESSAY
I have chosen the words outgoing, motivated, leader, funny, and quiet. The focal point of my design is the word "outgoing". The "out" in outgoing is capitalized and in bold font to attract the eye to that spot in the design first. Someone that is outgoing usually stands out from the crowd and you notice that person first, much like what I have illustrated in my design. The "going" in my design looks like it is going away from the focal point. The letters in "going" are decreasing in opacity so it looks like it is fading or going away from the design itself. The "going" also ends at the start of a new word, "motivated." This is the start of the rhythm of the whole design. "Going" goes into motivated. I put motivated in all caps in a strong serious bold font. Motivated is a serious word, so I illustrated the seriousness of that word in my design. From motivated, the rhythm of the design leads your eye to "leader." I used repetition in the design for this word. Leader starts as a small and soft font and continuously increases in opacity, as well as the size of the font. The word leads your eye down to the bottom corner of the design. The last "leader" is very big and the "R" itself in leader is bigger than the rest of the letters to show that that "R" is leading the rest of the "leaders" in the design. From "leader" the rhythm of the design makes the viewer's eye go to the word "funny." I put "funny" in a font that stands out and warped the letters to make them weird and funny looking. "Funny" is basically written backwards and going upwards, which also makes the word look funny. My last word is "quiet." I used a soft font that doesn't have any serifs in the letters and decreased the opacity of the word. I also warped the letters a little to make them look wavy to make the word look a little softer and more quiet. Decreasing the value in the word makes it look more quiet than the rest of the words in the design.
I kept an even amount of negative space around my design to create somewhat of a boarder around the design and kept an even amount of negative space throughout my words to keep it all balanced. It also keeps my words proportioned in the design. Changing the value in the letters in "outgoing" on the right side of the design balances out with the decreasing value on the left side of the design in "leader" which balances out the whole design. The changing in the values and the visual flow, along with my strong focal point of the design creates unity. The repetition of the word "leader" also emphasizes the meaning of the word. The "out" in outgoing is definitely the focal point of the design because it is the biggest of the words and the boldest. With "outgoing" being my center of interest and the word leading the viewer's eye to the next word creates hierarchy in my design. The variety of values and different fonts in my design and the even amount of negative and positive space keeps everything scaled.
